I bet everyone has their rooms already booked, but I am willing to sleep on air mattress to save some $$ if anyone is willing to split a room.
I have to check out by Friday, but I'd be happy to split my room payment with you. It's a single king, so be warned, both of us may be happier that you've got an air mattress along.
I am going to stay till sunday and I am thinking about staying in the Red Roof Inn. Its only 12 mins away from the Holiday Inn, it's less than half the price and I may even be splitting that with someone else. I know it probably isnt the greatest hotel, but I figure I am just gonna be there to sleep.
How much is a taxi from there?

I used to manage the awful Days Inn across the street from that Red Roof. They face each other across the street. The Days Inn is where all the prostitutes stay. It's famous for the lot lizards out back. It's also got the country dance hall. @andyw has been robbed at gun point twice at that hotel.
@Dominica worked at the Fairfield diagonally across the intersection there, too.

Hotel cost is $280 for Wednesday - Saturday Night. Rental car would be about $150 total and the drive won't cost much gas so it would still be less than the Holiday Inn.
However another person might come who is driving. So we could split the Hotel cost and I wouldn't need a rental.

Ah, not so bad, then.

The stumble to your room right upstairs is worth a lot to me.
I discovered at the first big convention (San Diego Comic Con - the biggest con of it's type in the world). Stay on site at nearly any cost.
That time I was staying about 3 miles away, 15 min normally, but in traffic more like 40. Paid for parking, plus no access to room during the day, etc - yeah I still spent less money on the far away room and rental car, but time lost at the event and not being able to 'party' made it kinda suck!

A LOT! No parking garages between the conference and the hotel.

Always good to head back for a beer during the day.
Hey, are there beer stores near the hotel? How does one get beer in their room?

Beer in NY is grocery stores and gas stations. I believe that there is a Wegmans with a huge beer selection (for NY) not far away (taxi likely) and I"m sure that there are beer stores within walking distance. And, you know, the fourth largest brewery in the country is next door.
-
ANd one of the other top ten is across town. Yes... Modella and Corona are from Rochester, too
-
Rochester, NY might actually be the biggest beer city in America. Unlike St. Louis which only has the US arm of the world's largest brewer (Belgian InBev), Rochester actually has two of the biggest brewers in the world in the same town. And both are local. And both own the biggest Canadian and Mexican brands, too.

So I can buy a six pack and take it to my room?
All your posts left me confused still.

I'm confused by the question. Why would that be a problem? Is there somewhere in America where that's a problem to do?

Without a car? Yes.
For example, when we went to Disney. We had no car. There was no way to go get beer.

This is all a five minute walk from the Holiday Inn Downtown. There has to be a market somewhere in that zone. This is literally the downtown intersection of the third largest city in New York. Someone sells beer downtown.
-
This is just a few minutes farther on foot, only like three blocks. Cross the river and there is a beverage store.

So...yes!

We are right by the bar district, too. And the hotel has a bar.

Yeah but what about when I want a beer in the morning. Or in the middle of the night.
Can we go to the bar any time to get a beer? How does that work exactly?
