@black3dynamite thanks.. I saw those.. Trying to see if I can get free or cheap boxes first.. The 2nd link is an option, 1st is $150 just for shipping.. I have cheaper shipping rates, which is why I am trying to find a used one. This is for personal, not business so trying to keep it as cheap as possible
Have you also checked out Uline too?

Those servers are shaped like a TV, maybe head down to a electronic store and ask for some empty tv boxes.

Also worth mentioning you could add insurance to whatever you ship or have FedEx / UPS package and get insurance from them.
If the items are damaged you get them to fix or replace whatever is damaged.
-
Just note that by default you get at least here $1000 on any package shipped at a very low cost (maybe a few dollars).
And if the item is valued more than that you would have to add on top of it to insure a full replacement.
-
Do you currently have them installed in a rack of some sort? If you do, it'd probably be cheaper to mount the rack on a small pallet and ship them freight.
-
@black3dynamite I looked at the briefly, I will look more at them if I can't get anything.. depends how much they charge for shipping to me. They have other boxes I would need, so will take a closer look.
@DustinB3403 Yup, I was just going to do $1,000 on insurance.
@travisdh1 I will look at that, as it is in a rack. Altho the shipping rates are deeply discount for the company I currently work for. For the box @black3dynamite mentioned, it would cost me $45 to ship the server. But Freight might come out cheaper than ordering a box and then shipping it in the long run and I would get to keep the rack (as I was initially going to sell it). Do you have any freight company suggestions?

Last time I shipped a server, granted it was a 1U, I went to FedEx and watched the person pack it. They took a huge box and cut it down to size.

@smartkid808 Aloha Air Cargo, BNX Shipping, and Hawaiian Express Services are the three companies in Hawaii that I remember picking up and dropping off for while I was driving truck in NE Ohio, so I'd start with those 3 (they were better than most at having things show up not banged up).
-
@smartkid808 moving back to the mainland?
-
@travisdh1 Awesome, Yea, I have head of Aloha Air and Hawaiian Express.. I will check them out.. Might really look at them as they could possibly move some of my other stuff depending what I got, as movers need a min of 1,000 lbs and I wont have that, and don't wanna pay $3 a lb.
@scottalanmiller yes sir..

Because it's Hawaii. High cost, high crime, no jobs, low pay. It's awful beyond the pay by the second tourist trap stuff.

Exactly what Scott said... Cost of living, Crime, crappy jobs, horribly low pay.. I will really miss it, got some great people (of course will stay in touch), but i cant afford it.. costing me more to live than I a making. So I will be leaving around June after my hanai cousin graduates high school, and tie up loose ends.. Already looking for jobs here. My brother have some of his friends/contacts keeping an eye out as well, but cant really apply till the time gets close.
-
@smartkid808 you heading back to Arkansas?
-
@scottalanmiller yea.. im closer to family that way.. Mom getting older and might need more help. I am actually here now on vacation, but head back to Hawaii tomorrow.
-
@travisdh1 whats your take on using UShip?

I don't remember them being around back then, this would've been ~15 years ago now, so it's been a while. So long as you pickup the insurance, you won't have an issue.... no carrier likes having to pay an insurance claim.
-
@travisdh1 OK, Thanks.. I will look at them to. Its a shipping auction site thing.. I think thats what the show Shipping Wars used. Not sure. but yea.. I am liking this option.. Thanks so much for suggestion.

See if you can sell the servers locally instead of shipping them. You could always remove disks or whatever else you want to keep and put in your luggage.
There is probably more money in the CPU, memory and the disks than in the box - of course depending on the config.
Plenty of CTO servers are sold so people can configure them however they want. -
