No headphone jack makes it even shittier than the rest of Crapple's products.
That's a pretty significant loss of functionality. I get that they want to seal it for water proofing, but.... ugh.
I completely disagree on the loss of functionality. It is called moving forward. The fact that they are including both a Lightning to analog converter as well as the lightning earpods themselves is amazing.
The earpods connect over Lightning? I thought that they were wireless.
I'm unhappy that Apple blocks my browser so that I can't watch the event.
There are the standard headphones with the lightning jack along with the lightning to headphone jack adaptor in the box. The AirPods are more $$
OKay, so you need new ones, but at least they are retaining the functionality, just not backward compatibility with the old headphones?

but i hate my plantronics bluetooth now.
I liked them for the short time that they worked, but it was like one month before they died. None of mine kept working.

Earpods are wired and always have been.
I didn't see that Earpods were still included. It sounded like they were phased out.

$159 for the airpods, being released in october.

I don't see carrying around an extra adapter as an issue. It would just be connected to my earbuds which i already carry around anyways.
-
iOS 10 being released Sept 13. Just in time for me to upgrade before driving to MangoCon.

I like earbuds now because I move them between devices all of the time.

New watch looks nice I didn't pay that close of attention to that. New Phones are 7 and 7+
Is the much ado about no headphone jack true?
Does it matter honestly?
Why wouldn't people use a bluetooth headset?
Yeah, but what about all the hobby businesses that only process credit cards with the mobile payment things that plug into a headphone jack? They're all going to be forced to pay fees to Apple now instead of the super cheap ones in place today.
They'll be forced to Android.
Good. Bring all of them our way There are Nexus's waiting for everyone

You own an iPhone and can watch it anytime you want. Do not blame them for your choice to not use your iPhone.
Requirements: Live streaming uses Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology. HLS requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with Safari on iOS 7.0 or later, a Mac with Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5 or later, or a PC with Microsoft Edge on Windows 10. Streaming via Apple TV requires an Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software 6.2 or later or an Apple TV (4th generation).

I agree. They should take a look at what Samsung is doing. Samsung has 3 models (Galaxy S, Note, and Active). The Galaxy S and Active use the same hardware, but the Active is waterproof, shockproof, etc. It obviously weighs more and isn't as pretty, but as much time as I spend on the water it is a must have. For technology buffs that need ruggedness, it is a dream come true since it has the latest hardware.

Why wouldn't Square design a unit that can connect over BlueTooth?
I think they do.
Square switched a while ago to a new unit in order to get the ApplePay/AndroidPay crowd. They do not promote the use of the analog jack anymore.
OH that's good. So only legacy devices affected.
Ya it happened with the card chip change. They would cover your costs if someone's info was stolen from swiping until they shipped it to you.

I signed up to get one and then never went through with it. It was only $49, but I never did enough with a CC to bother with it.

Seems I don't come to this thread often enough.. jeeze.. just skipped 14 days worth of posts. I may go back and read.
Starting to get ready for MangoCon - Getting my route plans in order for travel on Sunday and the return. I'm also wondering if I can get a replacement Bluetooth keyboard from Amazon in time. I'm returning the RII 12+ I have as it's not BT, just 2.5Ghz and not of the size I can type on very well.

Drinking some not your father's today was anything but a good day.
-
Getting ready for my 4th of 5 fantasy football drafts.

Yeeeeeeesssssssssss. I can run Fedora or Korora on my Chromebook now. The recent updates have fixed the really bad screen flickering.

Just logged off the AdaFruit Ask an Engineer. - I don't suppose I should be terribly surprised. I didn't get an answer....
