I can't even

Well the guy looking for HTML basics knows he doesn’t know too, to be fair. But seven years, no idea what how a web page works? It’s a bit extreme.
-
I suppose it might be part of the basic toolkit for an IT person, only in the most basic sense.

I'm just waiting on someone new to ML to find my threads about various infrastructure problems and link them to I Can't Even.
But why? Because you specificaly know it is hosed up and are looking for solutions.
Some of the terrible stuff was done while I was here, but had neither the power to stop it or enough wisdom to recognize the full scope of "terrible."

I suppose it boils down to - do the others who are judging others (in this case Scott posting in this thread) think what you asked a question about rise to the level worthy of bringing shame based light upon you? Clearly in the case of this person who is claiming 7 years IT experience, but doesn't know what a img tag is, rises to just such a level for Scott.

@dashrender Ha! I understand. Sometimes I overdo the self-deprecating humor.

"DERP!!!! I don't know how to contact support for my new server!!! Plz h@lp!!! Most urgents!!!"
(I'd solve this problem with a quart of gasoline and a match.... applied to the OP, of course. Well, I'd also apply the same fix to any of his progeny that may exist... just to make a positive change in the world).

Vendor support would delay going into production. LOL
Um, so just use a server that is having obvious problems instead?

Now people are claiming that only tech people need to know HTML. We used to teach that to middle schoolers when I worked in a K12. It was part of "understanding computers".

At least they need to know that it exists and what it does for them.

But it isn't even about computers. It's a web language. Nothing else.
I took html in school as well and knew it wasn't at all related to what I would be doing.

Apparently being aware of markup tags is questioned as some kind of advanced tech wizardry now.

I definitely don't consider it tech wizardery.. but I'm not yet of the opinion that it's in IT's domain either.

No, it's basic literacy and everyone, even non-IT people, should know it.

I really am starting to feel that the conversations are going insanely downhill. It's not that there weren't always crazy questions, but the frequency and the ratio seem to be edging towards the insane.

I'll have to wait until someone responds. It was totally out of context in a thread that wasn't talking about performance at all, but just talking about how to partition and format a drive.

You're younger than me (though only a year or two) - your school taught it, mine did not.

I learned HTML and BASIC in middle school.

When I taught middle school we taught it. And we learned BASIC in elementary.
