I have a client that has a remote desktop server and has 50 CALs. The server keeps drawing from the temporary license pool that gets created automatically, and throwing event 22 in event viewer. I'm not familiar with the licensing, but shouldn't you be able to remove the temp pool so that clients take licenses from the purchased licenses? I tried following:
http://www.urtech.ca/2014/02/solved-revoke-option-is-greyed-out-in-rd-licensing-manager/
to revoke the licenses, but that just removed the paid licenses and put the temp pool right back. When I reconnected to remote desktop, the client was in the Temp pool again. I'm probably missing something obvious since I haven't worked with this before.

RE: free OCR software
@Jason Acrobat Pro for $55 from techsoup.org for the win. I thought the only option was the creative cloud suite subscription. I missed the Acrobat Pro option.

For us issues like this are usually that of the ISP, so it's usually on the user to contact their ISP. Some are willing to fix it, some aren't.
In my experience, if you don't have a smoking gun, like logs or a bad tracert, you don't get very far. And with good reason. Imagine all the Surface users that have called in about their internet connection.

RE: free OCR software
Thanks for all the suggestions. I found that tesseract doesn't support .pdf files as a source. FreeOCR and others that use tesseract therefore won't work for what I'm trying to do. (Take an image based .pdf and OCR it) The other programs listed in the techsoup article don't have a Windows version.

RE: free OCR software
let's just call it a commodity platform that my end user recognizes. Since it's been a long time since I have compiled anything, $30 seems very reasonable.

RE: free OCR software
@scottalanmiller uhh, can I get a Windows .exe of that?

free OCR software
A non for profit is looking for something that can take image based .pdf files and turn them in to text based .pdfs. (OCR) any suggestions?

RE: VPN Connect continually drops
Does he only have the problem at home, or else where? It could also be a problem with consumer grade home router. A firmware update might do the trick, but it might not.

RE: VPN Connect continually drops
A continuous ping would tell us what the max ms is to his CRM server. (or if there are drops) It could be the CRM app can't tolerate hangs that you get with wifi, or best effort VPN connections.

@gjacobse What client are you using to connect? Have you gone over those logs? Is he on Wifi? Timeout values?

RE: POE Switch for IP Surveillance Camera
I've got some HP ProCurve 2530-24G switches powering some cameras and wireless A/C access points. I needed some that supported PoE+ and VLANs. I believe the PoE+ spec puts it at 30 watts per port.

RE: Lync 2010 and Skype For Business
I might still have it on a machine. I had issues with it connecting to o365, so when I cut the org from the on prem lync server most all the clients were upgraded to Skype for Business 2016.
Does the Lync client need to be connected to o365?

RE: Force Skype for Business to remain signed in..
There are also the anti big brother users that don't want people to know when they come in/leave/are idle...
In Lync 2010 I had an on prem server and Lync started at logon, and autosigned in. I still had users that would click settings and exit as soon as it launched. At that point, it became a HR issue. -
RE: Force Skype for Business to remain signed in..
Are you running 2013 or 2016? I know in the group policy kit for 2013, the only option is to launch at login. I haven't downloaded the 2016 .admk yet.

RE: User profile does not replicate to Server
The user didn't somehow get moved in to the domain guest group did they? That will wipe a profile at logout.

Extract the contents of O15CTRRemove.diagcab (winrar/7 Zip)

wscript OffScrub15_015msi.vbs all
I think my issue was that in my environment, I already had Office 2010 installed. For some reason a wmic command to uninstall Office 2010 wouldn't work, but this tool does.

RE: Office click to run deployment
update:
running O15CTRRemove.diagcab before the install allows it to complete. Now to find a silent command line option for running O15CTRRemove.diagcab ... -
Office click to run deployment
Has anyone had any luck deploying Office 2013 Click to Run on a LAN using the Office Deployment Tool kit? Microsoft doesn't have .msi files for this build, and you can't psexec it because it launches a bunch of other processes that need the logged in user to be admin of their machine. (yes, this is their best practice) I was able to push Lync/Skype 2013 via a login script, but Office 2016 isn't working.
In the log files, it's ending with:
01/14/2016 14:50:44.301 SETUP (0x1028) 0x1b9c Nexus Transport a426j Unexpected MsoGetRemoteHostNetworkStatusWithUrlType failed {"RemoteHost": "https://nexus.officeapps.live.com"}google tells me others ran in to this when their source dir wasn't specified properly in the .xml file. I think my xlm path is right because it's what I used to do the download. This is what I'm using:
<Configuration>
<Add SourcePath="\\server\dfs01\apps\Office2016\OfficeProPlus" OfficeClientEdition="32" Branch="Current">
<Product ID="O365ProPlusRetail">
<Language ID="en-us" />
</Product>
</Add><Updates Enabled="TRUE" Branch="Current" />
<Logging Level="Standard" Path="%temp%" />
<Display Level="None" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
<Property Name="AUTOACTIVATE" Value="1" />
</Configuration> -
RE: mobile phone signal booster
It's a small auto repair shop. It's for his customers and thus, he is not a customer of ATT and others. He is a Verizon customer and they gave him the Verizon femtocell, and that works. I think it would be a pain to have to maintain 4 different femtocell devices, but I guess there isn't much of a choice.
