According to a link in the article, you can get it to work with other environments as well... but that seems like a lot of work when you could just use something like X2Go, doesn't it?
-
@dafyre Or you could just install Ubuntu....
haha

Why does your boss care if you get your job done? It's not as if they are managing your workstation / performing maintenance.

ANd even MORE work than just running a better OS for free from the beginning.

After working on Linux boxes all day I don't want my own laptop to give me problems.
That's why I dropped using the Mac Book. It was horrible. Buggy and slow, so much work for simple stuff. Moved to Linux Mint full time as my only working machine and it's been glorious. Zero problems, super fast, comfortable to use. One year on Mac to one year on Linux, no desktop has worked so reliably for me ever. Windows was quite a bit better than Mac, but nowhere as good as Linux Mint.

I dunno, really? Overall I want to run what my colleagues asking me for help are running.
That makes sense. Running Mac OSX helps you be familiar with what the most people need help with. That makes sense. When I ran OSX, I was definitely experiencing the same issues as lots of other people. If you are supporting people, matching your problems to theirs when possible is certainly sensible.
Although, when possible, I'd push to fix their problems rather than just replicating them
