Free VM Backup
-
Yes I'm aware that with those requirements, it's unlikely anything free exists. I'm still asking just in case... covering all my bases, trying to come up with a good list of stuff that won't work.
-
That many VM's and it is not worth the money to buy a solution?
Just WTF?

That is quite a lot of VMs. What are you doing for backups now?
There's an existing solution, but is unrelated to my question... so I'm leaving out things like that.
I'm just looking for any possible software that meets some listed requirements that I may not have found.

Just WTF?You don't want free backup software. Because when it's 3AM and you're trying to do a restore and having an issue you need support. Free means no one verifies that a new patch in windows will not break it.

Yup

So is this just an exercise in proving to some exec that you should be paying for a backup and recovery solution?

It's bigger than that and much more to it, but I won't deny that isn't part of it.

So is someone looking to cut the budget on your existing backup solution with the "it cost to much" but doesn't understand what functionality and features are required and included in the solution you are currently using?

Why don't you just post your ACTUAL situation and business problem and we talk about that? Maybe your existing backup target sucks at dedupe and we could recommend a better target storage that would cover that use case?

Because:

Nothing more, nothing less. I'm well aware of all other aspects and don't want to go there in this topic, please.

Can think of free solution with requirement but Altaro Paid version might be a cheaper option depending on the amount of hosts.
-
I've been watching this space for a while and am completely unaware of any product existing in it.
-
Have you looked at Vembu Free yet? I just glanced at the free vs paid comparison and it may tick all the boxes.
-
I looked a little closer and you get all the features free for 3 vms. After 3 the main items like cbt and application aware backups require a license.
"The user can choose between unlimited features – limited VMs (upto 3 VMs) or limited features – unlimited VMs."
-
Veeam free using a powershell script.

@tim_g hyperoo works well as an agent solution. Well I've not tested it but if you dig a bit in specs it is not an hypervisor level backup. So you can use veeam agent free.
