Do you try and stick to one e.g. Fedora Server. Or like me use what ever distro you find an install guide for
e.g. I need to re-install SnipeIT onto a clean VM. But what Distro do i use? I've currently got it on Fedora as per one of the topics on MangoLassi. But should i use what they recommend (even thou i can't find what they recommend)
Another example is Zabbix and Unifi Controller.
Things like the UniFi controller are repository installed apps. You stick to the distributions that they are in repositories for. In that case Debian/Ubuntu.
Web apps like NodeBB and Nextcloud and SnipeIT should easily install on any OS. This should be what ever system you prefer. For me, that is always Fedora/CentOS.

The general consensus is to start with the "mainstream" enterprise OS's. Fedora, RHEL/CentOS and lastly Ubuntu.
No, that is not valid. WTF is even āmainstreamā?
I generally try to stick with whatever the developer uses. If they say we dev on X, I install using X, not Y.
Yeah not a chance. Developers are, generally, idiots when it comes to things outside of their apps. Like the OS. Ask most why they chose Ubuntu.

This is the normal approach i tend to keep. Just wondered what other did or recommended.

mainĀ·stream /ĖmÄnĖstrÄm/ noun 1.the ideas, attitudes, or activities that are regarded as normal or conventional; the dominant trend in opinion, fashion, or the arts. "companies that are bringing computers to the mainstream of American life" adjective 1.belonging to or characteristic of the mainstream. "mainstream politics" synonyms: normal, conventional, ordinary, orthodox, conformist, accepted, established, recognized, common, usual, prevailing, popular; informallamestream "the author never strays far from mainstream physics" verb 1.bring (something) into the mainstream. "vegetarianism has been mainstreamed"

Sure, but if the developer says "supported on Debian, CentOS and Fedora" you have your choice of a solution to use and you wouldn't go and use Gentoo (unless you maybe hated yourself).
The point being, if you want support of any kind, you stick with what the developer has said that they use and support.

mainĀ·stream /ĖmÄnĖstrÄm/ noun
I know how it is defined. But how are you claiming which ones are mainstream. Because there is only subjective evidence to support any of your wild ass bullshit claim.
Mint is Mainstream to many. It is old and nasty and not something I would ever use.
Ubuntu is a steaming pile of shit that only has popularity among "developers" because it was "popular" as a desktop OS.

Okay ass.
You know what my intention is and was when using the term Mainstream.
So get off your horse and onto the dildo, cause you need to sit and spin for a while.

No, if it is a web app, then the developer will support their app because it has jack shit to do with the OS. Will they support some dumb ass that doens't even know what an OS is? No. But then, neither do I.

Exactly. Devs typically have no idea about OS, security, etc... I work with a ton of Devs that more than prove this, all the time. There is never any practical or logical reasoning.

Completely unwarranted reply from you, because the use and intention of "mainstream" is useless no matter how you try to swing it... HOWEVER, I LMAO so hard at this.

Right nothing wrong with that either, as they are devs not IT.
But especially in the open source world, so much crap happens because the dev has no idea. Why? Because they are out there byb themselves only coding their app.
