@JasGot In my company, we use XCP-ng on 4 small hosts with maybe 10 VMs on them (2 Win RDP servers, few Linux fileservers...). We manage them with XCP-ng center (Windows app) in LAN and with Xen Orchestra remotely. We are very satisfied with XCP and management is pretty simple. We are no experts but beginners.
We cloned some VMs, copied them from host to host, added additoinal storage after installation...

I tried to install KVM few times and I find it confusing to setup and manage.

1. I do not think that you resume is the main reason that you are not "getting any hits" (although you can and should improve it). I have done hundreds of interviews (as employer) and I would call you if I offer the job that you want (sysadmin, helpdesk manager...)
2. You should describe your experience in CCWtech in more detail where it is in your favor. For example, you can name more tools that you are expereinced with (Powershell, KVM, VMWare, HyperV, XCP-NG, Ansible, Chef, Puppet.....)
   It would be great if you can list projects or achievements that you have done.
3. Have you managed other people? If you have, it should be clearly stated in resume. I do not see it in your resume, and it is important experience for any managing position (like Helpdesk Manager)
4. Email address in your resume should be personal, not business (unless you are owner os CCWtech)

Note: Are your jobs at Police and CCW really overlap from 2008-2014 as it states in you resume?

One wide definition of project that I learned was that project is any situation where you need to complete more then one task to achieve a goal.

We tried Asana and Freedcamp and I think they are both good for tracking tasks/projects within team.
However, I have not yet found app that can fullfill all our wishes for tracking tasks within teams.

Open "RD Licensing manager", browse for device who's license you want to "revoke", leftclick on it and choose "Revoke license"
As said, up to 20% of total licenses can be revoked before expiry.

And the licensing it describes has nothing to do with Hyper-V.

@JasGot For my personal task list, todoist.com is the best for me. But for tracking projects that involves more than one person, I do not find it good.
Asana, Freedcamp and monday.com were good from my experience.
Monday.com is somewhat unusual, but more flexible for different stuff. Asana and Freedcamp are "classic" project tracking apps and I find them good.

But I never managed to find "ideal" or "best" app for project tracking

I want to build small server that needs to perform these functions:

1. Nextcloud server for 15-20 users (users are not in LAN) - we want to move from Dropbox where we have 100.000+ files taking 78GB space. Users would have Nextcloud clients installed.
2. Backup target for 3 off-site servers (totally 1TB space is enough)
3. VM with Piler (mailpiler.org) for mail archiving (I guess we have about 20GB of mails per year)

I thought to build it with this:

1. Dell T30 - E3-1225v5 CPU, 8GB RAM - 400 EUR (cca $460)
2. Two pieces of 4TB WD Red in RAID 1 - 105 EUR (cca $120) each
3. XenServer 7.5 as hypervisor (or XCP-ng)

• one VM for Nextcloud - 2CPU, 4GB RAM
• one VM for Piler mail achiver
• backup target on separate VM or on one of the above

My questions:

1. Do you think my config is OK, or do you recommend something else?
2. Where should I put my space for backup target - on Nextcloud or on another VM (or together with Piler)?
3. Would it be better to have 4x2TB drives in RAID 10 instead od 2x4TB drives in RAID 1? I don't think that storage performance should be an issue, as we have internet connection as limiting factor (10Mbps up / 30Mbps down)

@scottalanmiller Yeah, that's annoying, and Win7 is not easy to install on most new hardware.

the owners or business managers absolutely demand control of IT decisions and IT is just there to look pretty or something.

I think it's not problem who makes decisions - the real question is does management listen to their staff or expect them to "do what they're told to do".
Good management always listen to their subordinates.

I do not see any other spreadsheet that matches (or outperforms) Excel.
In our company we use Excel and LibreOffice Calc as spreadsheets, but Excel is better for us.
We also tried Onlyoffice, but we were not satisfied very soon.

That cannot be the case in EU.
And that is huge driving factor for moving more and more licensing from perpetual to subscription based licensing, just as @scottalanmiller mentioned for Office 365

2. You can't say "$343K in 2016 adjusted dollars", because your payments are not in 2016., but accross 20+ years.

The obvious examples would be things like Windows or MS Office vs. Ubuntu or LibreOffice.

I seriously have to question if people who like LibreOffice actually use it for business. It is terrible at so many things. This is coming from someone who has used an Ubuntu workstation with LibreOffice for the last 6 years while working for multiple companies. Microsoft Office is 1000x better, and makes collaboration much easier. I have spent so much time trying to get LibreOffice to work or read MS office documents (that everyone else uses), and there has been nothing but issues. Not to mention LibreOffice is slower than MS Office by a good margin. If you work with big documents, LibreOffice is a dog.

I like both but I'm not exactly a power user when it comes to using Office products like LibreOffice or Microsoft Office, so my use of them works pretty well but if Microsoft made a desktop version for Linux, I'll probably buy it.

I wouldn't here, but I have loads of customers for whom MS Office on Ubuntu would be an acceptable compromise as often their only Windows dependency is MS Office and only that because of some automation from some other application.

If there is a desktop version of MS Office for Linux (actually only Excel), we would remove Windows OS from our office desktops and laptops (30 workstations).
We use LibreOffice on other 25 POS PC's, but on them, we need Windows for POS software.
So - we gladly buy MS Office where we need it, but I would be happy that we don't need WIndows because of all troubles with updates
