I have been watching the Kano project closely waiting to see what it does over the next few years for when my daughter is old enough. I haven't bought one, but it looks like a cool option.

RE: Coffee may cause cancer...
Stressing out about every single thing you eat because you think it will kill you will actually kill you faster. I did it for a long time, now I am just trying to eat like a sane person, calm down, and be happy. It lowered my blood pressure, which studies show will also kill ya.

RE: If You Have to Ask the Question...
This came up a few weeks ago when talking about trying to explain technical details to executives. My boss brought up an old saying that really stuck with me. "If you have to ask the question, you wouldn't understand the answer."

I have wondered too about the transitional desk. Though I can't stand for extended periods due to nerve damage and now it would seem a bad ankle.
I've used them and I love them. I REALLY want a walking desk, with a treadmill. But feel like I'd fall over.
NOPE, could not walk and type, standing was enough of an adjustment.
So you bought a white wood desk and then sawed the legs off of that table to create this? Do you have pictures of the end result? I can't stand all day or sit all day. I feel like a transitional desk would work wonders.
I'm 6 foot tall so I didn't have to cut the legs at all. Here is a picture of my desk. I move between the table and the regular desk.

another case of all bets are off when you have access to the hardware. I keep my crypto wallet in a lock box next to my firearm.

I'm not sure how "epic road trip from Salisbury, NC to Western NY." is on Route 66, but if you are road tripping to LA, I live on Route 66. This post is redeemable for 1 free Beer for each of you at Instant Karma if you stop in Joplin, Mo.
Opps Fixed.... We are firming up our route now. We will only be hitting Route 66 here and there on our trip, I think. We will be taking Interstate 40 from Salisbury most of the way across the country.
Ahh, 40 south of me. We are on 44 which connects Chicago and St. Louis to Oklahoma City. Well, if you want to take a 3-6 hour scenic route for a free beer, hit me up.

RE: New Years Resolutions?
@scottalanmiller I have to drink year round to get my tolerance up enough that I don't have to be carried home after trying to keep up with you.

RE: Some New Macs Risk Bricking from Third Party Repairs
I'm OK with this one. If someone unauthorized messes with or replaces my fingerprint scanner, I'm OK with my laptop bricking.

Interstate 44 starts in St. Louis and goes southwest. It does not go to Chicago.
Well, I'll be it does turn into Interstate 55. I have only driven to Chicago once, and it was unpleasant. At the time the speed limit was still 55, and I have tried to black it out from memory.

My roommate, who drinks daily, went out with me the other day. I wasn't even buzzed and she crashed onto the sidewalk and passed out. She couldn't even remember having gone out the next day!
It has been a few years since we have had a chance, but @Slava had to carry me home last time. I was about 1 drink to 1.5 for you. I consider that a victory.

@scottalanmiller That's why they don't have a space program
Actually they do, they are expecting to beat the US in a lot of things.
I was referring to a Dana Carvey joke but I just remembered he hasn't made me laugh since Wayne's World 2.
Why would he make you laugh? Not like he was a comedian.
Laura thinks he's a comedian. I just texted her to remind her he isn't.
Where would she get that impression? Has she never seen him act?
Her family apparently watched his stand-up when her and her brother were little. It's really unsettling because I've shown her Bill Burr, Patton Oswalt, Doug Stanhope, etc. You know, good comedians. She still maintains this belief that Dana Carvey is funny.
Is it just me or do you think that people who find unfunny comedians funny are sociopaths? Maybe Laura is going after my life insurance. Who knows?
I can stand behind his first stand up special. That being said his most recent one, and 90% of his movies are awful.

Cultured foods
Is anyone else making cultured foods at home? I have made sauerkraut at home a couple times, I have a Mr. Beer and occasionally make a batch of home brew beer. I just started my first batch of kombucha. I don't think it is a magic cure all, but it is bubbly, low sugar, and I like the taste, so why not?
Does anyone else here brew at home?

Running Application Audit
I have a mystery application running on a Windows 2000 Pro server. I know it is getting data from a remote source somewhere and putting it somewhere local. I also know it is critical, can not be stopped, or data will be lost. I am looking for minimal impact ways of seeing what this process is doing, where it is connecting, etc. I would like to install Wireshark on the system and just watch the network traffic, but that may be a little too intrusive. Working in a live manufacturing environment, so downtime is a no no. Any ideas?

The only thing I make myself is Yogurt. Though I have thought about making kombucha.
This is my first batch and it was super easy, the hardest part is just leaving it alone and letting it doing it's thing.

I've considered attempting a go at this... What all is necessary to get started? Mason jars and a starter batch?
I had a friend suggest this book. In short you need a a 1 gallon container. Preferably glass, preferably with no spigot. I bought a gallon jar of large pickles. Then you need tea, and sugar, a cup of already made kombucha, and a SCOBY. You can get the last two easily if you can find someone else who brews, or for about $10 at a local hippy grocery store. You then brew the tea, add the sugar, let it cool. Then put it in the container, add the SCOBY and the kombucha and wait 10-15 days. Then you can get into how to carbonate, 2nd fermenting, etc.
