RE: How long is too long?
Average IT jobs these days are 3-4 years. Resume wise, at least stick it out for 3.

RE: MangoCon 2019 Venue Announcement
Used to live walking distance from there before that area blew up and got fancy.
Right by the La Cima Club where Scott, Dominica and I spent way too much money on food and drinks. -
RE: Is JBOD Considered a Type of RAID?
That is like saying Raid is a type of backup.....
Sorry that I am late to the party, my bus broke down. -
Xmas in August!! 3 ML370 G5's & Barracuda shell
Man these are 3 tanks I have! All 3 of them have a little different specs. FREE!!!!!
What to do with them, what to do with them........hmmmmmm
All of them are clean, no dust buildup. So they were in a proper ventilated DC.
Folding? Seti? Bitcoins? Gaming rig? What do do with free crap?
I would say lab, but AWS is cheaper than my power bill. (I am on Co-op power.....yeah....)All 3 have only 1 backplane for drives, 8 Drives per box. I have an open bank of 8 more per box, I could Frankenstein one of them.
The drives I have are all 2.5 SAS, here is the breakdown:
(3) 72GB 10K
(9) 72GB 15K
(14) 146GB 10K
(2) 146GB 15K
I have PLENTY of extra trays. So buying bare OEM drives works.

Plus I will need lots more RAM.
All of them have iLO, but only two toe tags.
Spare 256MB Raid memory (not sure it is good though)Server 1
(1) Xeon 2.33 1333MHZ 8MB 80W (Quad Core)
1 mem board, 4GB (2x2) PC2 5300 555
Cache Battery (bulg needs replacement)Server 2
(1) Xeon 2.33 1333MHZ 8MB 80W (Quad Core)
2 Mem trays, each are 4GB (1X4). Same RAM specs above.
Two Extra GB nics
No Raid BatteryServer 3
(1) Xeon 2.66 1333MHZ 8MB 120W (Quad Core)
1 Mem trays, each are 8GB (1X4), and 1x4 on the other side. Same RAM specs above.
Two Extra GB nics
Cache Battery (bulg needs replacement)Empty shell of an old Barracuda 300, Nice tiny 1U mini that can fit in my AV rack.
Only got the PSU, and a 80GB and 320GB drive.
Build a gaming rig and use one of the Xeons that got Frankensteined?

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Sitting in Whataburger parking lot down from SAM (trinity/old denton). Wanted to make the commute during my intro period where I have to be there at 9. About 1.5 hours to kill. Going to take the 7-4 shift, best for my commute.

Solarwinds Reports
I have a report I have to build that is driving me up the wall...I hate reports.....
Requirements:
Ingress traffic on an ASA interface "Adaptive Security Appliance 'Internet' interface - Internet" to nodes/IP's. Run monthly.
Basically: Internet----->ASA Interface---->Top nodes for the last 30 days that got traffic from that ASA interface. In the report builder, I am using Total Bytes Transferred by Interface, then filter results where any of the following apply for Interface "Adaptive Security Appliance 'Internet' interface - Internet"
That blanked it out and doesnt show the top nodes. -

My neighbors smoke detector seems to have a malfunction, keeps beeping every few minutes... Would really like to get some sleep, just past midnight here.
We have sound pollution laws in much of the US to protect against that. If you can't sleep from that, we get to call the police.
It is not the house alarm he is referring to, it is the smoke detector random beeps of low batteries. Apt walls must be thin.
If it is an apartment, call maintenance and have them go replace the batteries for your neighboor. -
Azure Sync
I need to setup and Azure sync with On-prem. Issue is that we already have accounts in Azure and 365. From what I understand that is since I do not have a clean slate on both parts of the cloud side, this can get very dicey. Is there a read only version to sync with the cloud side and then activate the writes to the later? What if we have an on Prem AD account that matches the Off prem 365 or AD account, how bad will it freak out?
Directory sync is for 365 and Azure AD connector is for Azure right? Am I just getting too worried about this since there is no clean slate on the cloud side? -

Let's just sum it up - its genius (That's 70s Show - and I'm sure the new bedroom)
Actually it's the old bedroom. It's the bedroom that we used from 2010 - 2013. Just haven't been in it in three years.
I will be doing the same thing soon - switching rooms around. The worst part will be figuring out cable (which I don't use) and the best place for the WiFi extender
We wired the house so we have six Ethernet jacks in the new bedroom (only four in the old one.) No need for cable or wifi, it's all GigE Ethernet to every room in the house.
Oh come on - jealous! That's just not fair...
We have a full cabling plant in a customer built back closet that feed the whole house via the attic. The attic has cabling up on J hooks all over. It's very organized.
Nice! That is not "neat"! My OCD wants to come over and organize it. Droopy cables suck.

RE: When to replace hard drive in a RAID array
Also, be proactive and order the drive now. Personally I would order 2.
I also like to keep one spare on hand if you are setup without hotspare. -

Powershell: Get Office Software
I can run this just fine and it screen outputs like a champ
Get-Content -Path c:\scripts\Computers.txt | ForEach-Object {Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product -ComputerName $_} | Format-Table Name,Vendor,Version,Caption,LocalPackage
Then when I add:
Get-Content -Path c:\scripts\Computers.txt | ForEach-Object {Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product -ComputerName $} | Format-Table Name,Vendor,Version,Caption,LocalPackage |Where-Object -FilterScript {$.Name -like "Microsoft Office*"}
To only find Microsoft Office, it just completes and does no screen outputGet-Content -Path c:\scripts\Computers.txt | ForEach-Object {Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product -ComputerName $_} | Format-Table Name,Vendor,Version,Caption,LocalPackage | Export-CSV -NoTypeInformation "C:\scripts\installed.csv";
This returns a file with just guid only or blank in testingTrying to run this in an AD domain to get Microsoft Office installs and versions for prep of a O365 migration.
So I would like the format of the top one formatted into CSV and remove the other crap and just list me "Microsoft Office*" -
SW Roomate?
I will need a roomate to split the room at the Hyatt or I wouldn't be able to attend SW. Anyone still looking for a room?
